Why would I choose telephone / internet counseling?
There are many benefits to phone or Skype counseling. In fact, a recent study from the Journal of Counseling & Development found that more than half of the clients (58%) who had experienced both in-person and phone counseling, preferred phone counseling. Likewise, a similar study found that phone counseling clients rate their counseling relationship similarly to in-person clients.
Some of the benefits are as follows:
- Time – Phone/internet counseling is fast. Rather than waiting weeks to squeeze in an appointment that fits both your schedule and your counselor’s schedule, it’s easier to find the time you need to schedule a quick appointment. You also save the time it takes to drive to your appointment and home, as well as any waiting period.
- Convenience – You can conduct phone/internet counseling from your own home. No need to hire and pay a babysitter or get ready to go out to an appointment. Additionally, you’re comfortable in your own environment.
- Flexibility – You can schedule a phone/internet counseling session from your own home, your office, your car, or even while on vacation.
- Distance – You may want to set an appointment with us, but just live too far away. Phone/internet counseling allows us to work with people from all over the world. Additionally, phone/internet counseling means you don’t have to fight rush hour traffic, even if you live close by.
- Privacy – This is self-explanatory – you want to keep your business your own.
- Gets right to the point – Unlike an office appointment where one tends to make small-talk, counseling on the phone/internet generally gets right to the point. Phone/internet meetings tend to be more focused since there are fewer distractions. They also tend to go over exactly what you want to focus on, as you can have a list in front of you, and make sure that all your questions are answered.
- Considers your exact needs – Some people may need only one or two sessions, while others will require more. Phone/internet counseling allows you to address your exact needs.
- Cost effective - You won’t have to leave work early (or take the kids out of school early) for sessions. Additionally, you may find it more practical to meet for half hour periods of time, while in-person meetings require an hour commitment.
