Psychological-Educational assessment is our area of specialization. It involves one-on-one, individualized assessment at our offices in Palm Desert, La Jolla, and Woodland Hills, California. Individuals seeking a Psychological-Educational assessment are referred by families, teachers, principals/headmasters, pediatricians, learning centers, psychiatrists, psychologists, educational therapists, and previous clients. The comprehensive battery of tests administered are utilized to diagnose cognitive strengths and weaknesses, specific learning disabilities, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and pervasive developmental disorders (PDD). The purpose of the evaluation process is to discover why there is a problem. Once the problem is identified, a specific treatment plan is designed including strategies and interventions which are tailored to the precise needs of your youngster. This "game plan" is discussed with the family at the final feedback session which includes a comprehensive report.
Assessments are offered for students from 2 years of age through adulthood, of all ability levels, and for various referral reasons. Clients range from students in public and private schools, homeschool students, and college students. The battery of tests administered to high school students, college students, and graduate level students meets the College State Board requirements to help determine eligibilty for accommodations on examinations (i.e. Extended time on the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, ACT, CA Bar Exam). Students who request extended time must provide documentation of their disabilities and their need for accommodations for the College Board's review
Given the comprehensive nature of a Psychological-Educational assessment, the duration of testing, including initial diagnostic interview, and feedback discussion with a comprehensive report varies from 4 to 7 hours (testing usually consists of three sessions) and depends on the age of the individual and the nature of the referral question.
Gifted assessments and School Readiness assessments are also available. These assessments will provide you with information to identify if your child is being challenged and stimulated that allows for an individual's maximum development and to flourish at school.
If you suspect that your child’s challenges at school may require special assistance, please do not delay in finding support. The sooner you move forward, the higher the likelihood your youngster will achieve his or her true potential.
