Check out Source of Classroom Stress

Question: Lately, my child complains of stomachaches and says she doesn’t want to go to school. She says she doesn’t like her teacher because she’s mean. Help, I don’t know how to respond to this.

Answer: Before you jump to conclusions, keep in mind that kids tend to exaggerate situations and they often interpret "strict" as "mean." Your child may be comparing the current teacher to a teacher she had in the past with a different personality. There are many things you can do to check the validity of your child’s words. Try asking her questions about what she did during the day at school to see if she shares any specific information about the teacher. You may want to ask other parents if their children have shared similar complaints. If possible, volunteer in the classroom to see first−hand how the teacher interacts with the children. If there is an issue, arrange to meet with the teacher and share your concerns in a non−threatening manner. The teacher may be unaware of your daughter’s feelings. If you truly feel the environment is detrimental to you’re her, meet with the principal.
